Thursday of the First Week of Advent

(Memorial of Saint Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church)

It is sometimes so easy to say right things; it is not always easy to do right things. It is too easy, however, to feel guilty about our performance (whatever it is). The Good News is that God does not judge us by performance, but rather by desire.

If we say “Lord, Lord,” but don’t mean it, we’re heading for trouble. But when we say “Lord, Lord,” because our desire is to obey Jesus, the grace of God bears fruit in our lives that will lead to eternal life.
