We are products of our societies. Through socialization, we absorb the morals and mindsets of our cultures. Sometimes, these mindsets are so binary — ally vs. enemy; black vs. white; democrat vs. republican; center vs. margin —that these mindsets restrict us from reaching out to the “other” and working towards true peace. However, thanks be to God for offering us the Christian spirit of peace and reconciliation.
Today’s Mass readings boldly remind us of this spiritual attitude: “Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them” (Is. 11: 6).
